Tuesday Tip // Magnetic Knife Holder

When it comes to navigating my way around the kitchen, convenience is the name of the game. Whatever I can do to make things more accessible, within close reach, or easy to clean-up…I’m all over it. One of my favorite ways to accomplish this is to store my knives on a magnetic knife holder. When I’m multitasking my way through meal prep, I can quickly eye which knife I need to use and pluck it right off of the bar. It’s also a great way to store knives as it prevents edges from getting dulled in a drawer or sliding in and out of a knife block. Plus, it looks pretty cool to see all those shiny sharp things hanging on the wall…let’s not underestimate that fact.

  1. And it also makes for more space on the counter!

Question: As I was reading this, I was thinking that the magnet would dull the knife, and then you mentioned that the block does…I had no idea! How does that work? I imagine when putting the knives away (on the magnet) that it would hit the blade on dull the knife. Please help me understand! 🙂

You make a good point…with either method (block or magnet), you want to make sure you’re not manhandling your knives. You want to take care not to bang the edges when you’re placing/removing your knives. Ultimately with a block you should be fine so long as you are sharpening often! The “rolling around in the drawer” storage technique is the much greater concern. (Ps…email re: a date to get together! sorry for lagging). 🙂
